Slippery bodywork was only part of the 1984 Z28’s success. Equipped with a standard 5.0-liter engine rated at 150 horsepower, it could be fitted with an optional RPO L-69 HO 190-horse mill that enjoyed a compression bump from 8.6:1 to 9.5:1, and was topped with a 650-cfm carburetor.

It seems everyone wanted a Z28 in 1984, what with 52,457 being built with the RPO L69 5.0-liter V-8. This optional engine was only available on the Z28 and cost $530. It was rated at 190 horsepower and breathed through a four-barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. A popular engine, 52,457 were installed in Z28s.
